Place Bog Iron Ore Tokens on the Board

Before you read this articleyou will need to know the following terms and definitions:

Game(-s): Noun. Singular or Plural. A standalone version of Settlers of Catan, which can be played right out of the box without making additional purchases. There is only one standalone (base) game of Catan.
Expansion(-s): Noun. Singular or Plural.  An Catan game that cannot be played by itself. It must be used in conjunction with a standalone (base) game. The 5 & 6-player expansions are a good example of this.
Scenario(-s): Noun. Singular or Plural. A small set of playing pieces and instructions that can be added to normal Catan gameplay. It cannot be played by itself--it must be used in conjunction with a standalone (base) game. The "Oil Springs" scenario is a good example of this.
Variant(-s): Noun. Singular or Plural. A set of instructions for using the pieces from a Catan game or expansion in a new way. Most variants are fan-generated and require printing and cutting out new pieces.

Remove one bog iron ore token and set it aside.  Sort the remaining 24 bog iron ore tokens into 4 equal piles of 8 tokens each.  Place 1 pile on each of the 4 hexes shown in the image below:

2 Marsh Hexes

2 Castle Hexes

Bog Iron Ore Mining

If the number of a castle or river marsh hex is rolled, each of your adjacent settlements can produce 1 ore. Each of your adjacent buildings can produce ____.  If you choose ore, remove 1 bog iron ore token from the hex and place it out of the game.  If it is your turn, you choose first whether to take 1 Ore resource card for 1 Bog Iron Ore Token.  The other players follow in clockwise order.  Once the Bog Iron Ore Tokens on a Castle or River Marsh hex become depleted, that hex no longer produces Ore.

If you placed the Bog Iron Ore tokens on a Pasture hex, you may choose to harvest 1 ore or 1 wool. Each of your adjacent cities can produce 2 wool, or 1 wool and 1 ore— your choice (but never 2 ore). If you choose ore, remove 1 bog iron ore token from the hex and place it out of the game. If it is your turn, you choose first whether to take 1 ore for 1 bog iron ore token. The other players follow in clockwise order.  Once the bog iron ore tokens on a pasture hex become depleted, that pasture no longer produces ore.
