Place the Field Crop Tokens On and Alongside the Board
Before you read this article, you will need to know the following terms and definitions:
| Production Token(-s): | Noun. Singular or Plural. Refers to a small, circular cardboard token which is colored tan and printed with numbers and dots. Placed in the center of certain hexes, it determines when a variety of events occur during gameplay. Most importantly, it allows player to “harvest” when numbers are drawn. |
Separate the ninety (90) cardboard Field Crop Tokens and sort them into five (5) face-up piles (seed vial side down) organized by the following crop varieties:
- Wheat
- Beans
- Maize (corn)
- Rice
- Quinoa
Place some of the cardboard Field Crop Tokens on each of the Fields Hexes on the game board, obeying the following guidelines:
- During this set-up phase, no Fields Hexes should have more than one Field Crop Token of the same crop variety.
- Fields hexes with high-probability (and thus high desirability) Production Tokens should receive more Field Crop Tokens than Fields hexes with low-probability (and thus low desirability) Production Tokens.
- Fields hexes with Production Tokens 6 or 8 should receive four (4) face-up (seed vial side down) Field Crop Tokens (one [1] Field Crop Token of each of the five [5] crop varieties).
- Fields hexes with Production Tokens 5 or 9 should receive four (4) face-up (seed vial side down) Field Crop Tokens (randomly select one [1] Field Crop Token from four [4] of the five [5] crop varieties).
- Fields hexes with Production Tokens 4 or 10 should receive three (3) face-up (seed vial side down) Field Crop Tokens (randomly select one [1] Field Crop Token from three [3] of the five [5] crop varieties).
- Fields hexes with Production Tokens 3 or 11 should receive two (2) face-up (seed vial side down) Field Crop Tokens (randomly select one [1] Field Crop Token from two [2] of the five [5] crop varieties).
- Fields hexes with Production Tokens 2 or 12 should receive one (1) face-up (seed vial side down) Field Crop Token (randomly select one [1] Field Crop Token from the five [5] crop varieties).
Leave the remaining cardboard Field Crop Tokens sorted in the five (5) face-up piles beside the game board, for use later.
Place the Field Crop Seed Vault Display Card beside the game board, next to the five (5) piles of sorted Field Crop Tokens.
